In response to the recent series of accidents, today Senator Bob Casey held a hearing in Pittsburgh to review safety concerns regarding the drilling in the state.

Casey is also one of the sponsors of the Frac Act in the Senate and has been concerned about drilling in the state for a long time.

Oil and natural gas exploration is exponentially more safe today than it was 10, 2, 50, or 100 years ago And is continually becoming more safe, regardless of what the sensationalist media would like us to believe. Statistically, its still more safe than fishing, logging, farming, steel construction, flying planes, roofing, coal mining and even policing our fine society. I don't see Bob Casey opening inquiries into why police officers die because of an on the job incident. Or if there is an accident during a skyscraper construction.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the fact that the men doing these jobs know the dangers better than anyone and they choose these jobs as profession. Should there be a congressional inquiry on fishing when a boat sinks or a moratorium on new construction because a roofer falls or a steel worker is crushed?
Do these men really know the danger that they put themselves in everyday? Ask some of the construction workers or ship builders from the 60's and 70's if they knew that working with asbestos was dangerous to their health... or no wait a minute...you can't ...they are all dead now! The industry is lying to us, what makes you think that they are telling the truth to their employees?
ReplyDeleteAs far as statistics I doubt that there are even statistics for gas drillers working on Marcellus Shale( or any Shale for that matter)job sites! Most of the carcinogens that these people are being exposed to won't show effects for years. Only time will tell!
